One of the men behind the legendary opening credits of Coronation Street is joining Manchester media school Futureworks - and helping students create a TV-style drama all of their own.
Martin Kelly, of Rochdale, was the director of photography for the current version of the Coronation Street 'cobbled streets' opening sequence, supporting director Mark Nuttal (his sons are the two boys running under the bridge!). His career also boasts a range of high profile documentaries, children's animations and international films, with greats such as Postman Pat, Roary the Racing Car, World in Action and Hackers sitting alongside each other in his credits.
At Futureworks, Martin will be providing expertise and training for the students as director of photography in the Film and TV department. He will be a regular lecturer on all courses within the department and is also guiding the students through the creation and direction of a 15 minute programme. Filmed on location in Manchester and at Futureworks itself, the end result will be used as part of the students' assessments.
On joining the creative education school, Martin comments; "The facilities at Futureworks are top spec and I'm thrilled to be able to pass on my experience to these future technicians."
Director of Futureworks, Chris Mayo agrees; "Everyone is really excited about Martin joining, as he has great credentials. This is the approach we are committed to at Futureworks - our teaching staff have the best experience so can offer students a great insight into their chosen industry, while teaching them the key skills they will need."
Futureworks offers a range of courses in film & TV, music, games and CGI from beginner level up to expert level. Open days are hosted every month; for further information on these or any of the courses the school offers, please call 0161 237 7570 or log onto www.futureworks.co.uk.
