Locomotion creates 'Cupcakes' to promote BUG, London's essential music video event.

Soho-based 3D / VFX specialist Locomotion creates the second in a series of spectacular spots to promote music video showcase BUG 09's spring season of events, held at BFI Southbank.

The continuously sold out bimonthly BUG events, hosted by Adam Buxton, are now essential night out for aspiring film-makers, creatives and music fans alike. As sponsors, Locomotion celebrates BUG's commitment to find the most awesome, inspiring new work out there by creating memorable intro spots that transition into a new version of the logo each time.

The new 2 minute spot follows the same alien 'bug' theme that was introduced in Locomotion's first title spot 'Hills Are Alive', a pastiche on the musical film genre.

Entitled 'Cupcakes', concept creator and director Lars Magnus Holmgren takes a tongue-in-cheek look at our caffeine fuelled and sleep deprived culture through a weird and wonderful 'Happy Days' pastiche that follows one young man's madness after one too many cappuccinos...As colourful cupcakes open their candy eyes and sprout insectoid legs and wings, we promise that you'll never look at a cupcake in quite the same way again. The story ends with an ident that draws on imagery introduced in the sequence and the final logo has been applied on promotional collateral including posters.

Stop motion stills camera work was sought for the live-action to add a twitchy 'bugged-out' quality that mirrors the nerves-on-edge adrenalin rush of strong coffee. The cupcake bugs and character animation were seamlessly integrated with the stop motion footage to achieve a natural twitchy high-energy feel.

Says Holmgren, 3D Director at Locomotion, "This series of spots for BUG really demonstrates Locomotion's core philosophy - that we are a specialist boutique company with a 'creative' edge.  The talented core staff ensure that Locomotion can offer state of the art technical expertise and the highest production values, augmented by a high degree of expertise in conceptual design and creative leadership, and that sets us apart from other post houses".
