UK Screen Association - Representing the UK's Post Production and Special Effects industries

Information & Support

  • One-to-one - we offer confidential advice/support for members when concerns arise. As an association we are able to raise sensitive issues on behalf of members.
  • Business, legal and industry news  - we stay abreast of issues and filter the relevant information through to our members saving them time and effort researching themselves and picking through documents. We also offer free business support helpline.
  • Training Opportunities - We are often the first point of call with government funded training initiatives, so are able to pass on any information to members often giving them a head start.
  • Newsletter - our monthly newsletter gives our members a focused update of industry, business and member news along with updates on UK Screens acheivements.
  • Website - as well as regular news, industry events and RSS feeds on the site, we also have a members only area which contains: useful business documents Staff Handbook, Employment contracts, Fact sheets (e.g.absence control, unfair dismissal), Standard Documentation (e.g. policy documents) Transmission standards.

For members who require specific business advice we provide:

  • Free Business Support helpline - including advice on commercial and contract law, company law, debts & debt recovery, employment & personnel, health & safety issues, licencing, PAYE, payroll, tax and VAT.
  • Shining Stars - Shining Stars is an exciting recognition scheme designed to help motivate and reward non-creative employees within UK Screen member companies. Running throughout the year, each month a new Shining Star will emerge and in December all winners will celebrate in style at the Vision Charity Ball.

EVENTS

A wide range of events both industry specific and general business events. These include:

The Onion Training Sessions
Aimed at runners and juniors, The Onion is a major training initiative with the core goal of peeling back the layers of the business to educate attendees in the workings of the industry. There will be 10 sessions in total throughout the year.

Bite-Sized Seminars
We run short taster events which offer an insight certain sectors (IPTV, HD, Media Finance) which are designed for those working in production and facilities.  The seminars involve talks and panel discussions from heavy hitting industry professionals followed by networking drinks.

HR/Legal
These are organised on request for topics ranging from Tax and legal obligations when employing freelancers to Intellectual Property Explained.

Technical
These are either run independently for broader issues or in conjunction with the relevant working groups e.g. Understanding Digital Cinema and Dolby Explained. They are organised on the request of members.

PR, Marketing and Sales Surgeries
These are free, member only events run by PR agency Bubble & Squeak and guest speakers.

Pub Quiz
This is a quarterly event held by the association as a bit of fun and friendly competition for its members.
